Wednesday February 10th Responding to Planning Applications This course is run by Planning Aid. The session equips councillors and clerks with the skills they need to make effective observations on planning applications. The course explains what is meant by “material considerations” and is a very practical course giving councillors real hands on assistance in how to evaluate planning applications. Wedneday February 10th New Clerks Day One This course has been expanded and now covers two days. The course gives new clerks the key knowledge they need to get started in their roles. Day one covers Roles and responsibilities, meeting procedures, powers and duties. The training is also suitable for councillors and more experienced clerks who need a refresher. The sessions are designed to give lots of practical tips and give new clerks the opportunity to meet and network. Saturday February 27th Councillor Professional Development This new 3 part program covers all aspects of a councillors work. This session covers the code of conduct and meeting procedures. Councillors will come away with a good understanding of the ethical framework they work in and meeting procedures. The sessions are practical sessions and are case study and scenario led with lots of opportunities for questions and lively debate. Wednesday March 10th S106 and the Community Infrastructure Levy This training is led by PLANNING AID and helps to explain the complexities of S106 agreemnents and gives practical information on how Parish Councils can get involved with and understand these agreements. Saturday March 27th Councillor Professional Development This new 3 part program covers all aspects of a councillors work. This session covers Law and Council finance. Delegates will will learn what their obligations are in relation to managing the councils finances. Councillors will gain a greater understanding of their legal powers. Tuesday March 30th Crash course in the planning system. This course gives clerks and councillors an understanding of the planning framework at national, regional and local level. The course also gives an understanding of what is meant by material considerations and how to respond to planning applications. Tuesday 20th April Power of Wellbeing This training is essential for councils who wish to use the new “Power of wellbeing” This new statutory power widens the scope of projects that local councils can become involved in. Thursday April 22nd CiLCA This is the first CiLCA session and introduces the portfolio. The session work through the roles and responsibilities of the the clerk, chairman, individual councillor and the council as a corporate body. Dates of future session will be agreed with delegates.  
Tuesday May 11th Engaging with communities Effective Parish Councils need to represent the views of their Community. This workshop gives ideas and highlights best practice on how Councils can engage with and seek the views of the Community. Evidence that your Council engages with the Community is essential for Quality Council status so this workshop will help any Councils working to achieve this. The workshop also explains what is meant by a “Community engagement statement of intent”, this is one of the essentail criteria to use the Power of wellbeing so again this workshop will be useful to any Councils looking to use the Power of Wellbeing. This workshop is for Clerks and Councillors and the cost is £29 7.00pm-9.00pm NCALC offices Litchborough.
Saturday May 15th Employment Day Employment law and procedures can be a minefield for many councils. This workshop is scenario led and gives council and clerks uptodate advice on how to manage their employees. The sessin is led by Chris Moses an expert in employment law. Thursday May 27th Playground Safety: This sessions is by Roger Davis a RoSPA playsafety inspector and trainer. he course includes a practical session where delegates have a tour of a playground and are shown what risks and safety aspects tey should be checking. All attendees will receive a certificate from RoSPA playsafety and an information pack to takeaway. This course is suitabe for clerks, councillors, groundsmen and volunteers. Wednesday June 9th Open Spaces This sessions is packed full of information on managing open spaces. From setting up a pocket park, to managing and developing playareas. Northamptonshire County Council Pocket Parks officer and play experts will be on hand to answer queries and give advise. Saturday July 17th Chairmanship Training: There is often confusion as to what the chairman of a council, or one of its committees, can and cannot do. This interactive session covers all aspects of chairing, and the conduct of, a meeting of the council, and its committees. The course is open to all councillors who act as chairman or vice chairman, are interested in becoming a chairman or want to know more about the conduct of council meetings.
